Mortarboard Gift Box

You will need:

  • Joy® Iron-On letter sheet - Gold
  • Kunin®  9" x 12" Felt - Black or school colors
  • Embroidery floss
  • Cheese box (4 1/2" diameter, or similar)
  • Button*
  • Paint*
  • Gold wire
  • White glue
  • Craft iron
  • Hot glue and glue gun
  • Scissors, paintbrush

* Choose your school colors!

1.  Cut an 8" square of felt.  For an even sturdier top, cut two squares and glue together. If you have a smaller box, adjust the size of the squares as needed.

2.  Cut felt strips to cover the sides of the top of the box.  Adhere with the glue gun.  Paint the sides of the bottom of the box.  Line or paint inside of box if desired.

3.  Pull 10" of floss from the skein and tie through the loops at the top of the skein and knot the ends. Slide the paper band down slightly then wrap a short length of wire around the floss about 1/2" from the top. Glue the knot at the back of the button.  Slide the band off skein and cut ends to create the tassel.

4.  Position the letters for your message on the top of the felt square then adhere following manufacturer's directions on the back of the package.

5.  With glue gun, adhere square to top of box and button to center of square.

Happy Banner

Show off your happy every day with this cute banner....

You will need:
  • Joy® Iron-on Embroidered Letters - 3" White
  • Plaid® Fabric Creations paint - Yellow
  • Kunin® Felt
  • Mini pom pom trim
  • Fabric Glue
  • Paint brush
  • Glitter Paint
  • Lo-temp glue gun
  • Ribbon
  • Pinking Shears

Instructions:

1. Trace the pattern onto felt then cut out. Cut the first layer with straight line scissors and the second layer with pinking shears.

2. Adhere the two layers together using a high tack glue. Set aside to dry thoroughly.  I am so happy with how the layers look using the pinking shears on the top layer.

3.  Paint the embroidered letters with fabric paint. Using a soft brush work the paint into the threads to make sure that everything is covered and no white spots remain.  Thin the paint with a little water if necessary. After the first coat is dry, add a thin layer of glitter paint.

4. Did you know that the letters have a self adhesive back?!!? This makes it so much easier to place your letters on your project before ironing. This is the handiest thing ever!  Just peel the backing from  each letter then simply press in place.

5. Using a lo-temp glue gun add some fun pom pom trim along the bottom of each banner. After all the banners are finished glue them to a piece of ribbon using the glue gun.

Summertime Safe Travels Bag

With Summer and Vacation time just around the corner
it's a good idea to make a Safe Travels Essentials Bag to pack in the car.

There are so many things to remember when taking a vacation. So...whenever we take a road trip I like to pack a few essentials to have handy. When you have kids you never know what can happen.

For my Safe Travels Bag I used:

  • Joy® Iron-on Embroidered Letter sheet
  • Small Leather Bag
  • Craft Glue
  1. If you use a fabric bag, cover with a soft clean cloth then, following manufacturer's directions iron the letters onto the bag on cotton settings for 30 seconds.  Turn bag inside out and iron for an additional 30 seconds.
  2. Because I used a leather bag... I glued the letters onto the bag using a craft glue.
There are so many items that you might need to have on hand this summer.

These are just a few:
  • band-aids or first aid kit
  • sunscreen
  • anti itch spray
  • bug spray
  • rain poncho
  • scissors
  • small sewing kit
  • tweezers
  • toilet paper
